San Francisco, CA, and Oslo, Norway, December 5, 2025. San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) has launched its updated digital collections platform on TIND Digital Archive (DA). The migration from Islandora improves access to more than 50,000 digitized images and over 10 terabytes of data from the Main Library and 28 neighborhood branches, offering a cleaner interface and enhanced discovery for both the public and library staff.
SFPL’s digital collections span from the mid-nineteenth century to the present and reflect the city’s diverse social, cultural, and architectural history. The collections include photographs, manuscripts, newspapers, and digitized materials documenting San Francisco’s neighborhoods, street life, and community institutions, as well as materials from the James C. Hormel LGBTQIA Center, a key resource for the preservation of LGBTQIA history.
By adopting TIND DA, SFPL gains a hosted platform that simplifies the management of its growing digital collections from the Main Library and neighborhood branches. Batch upload and structured ingest tools reduce manual work for staff, while a unified viewing experience makes it easier for users to explore materials that reflect San Francisco’s communities and history.
“SFPL joins a growing group of public libraries selecting TIND DA to improve access and discovery through a modern interface and advanced metadata tools. TIND is honored to support the San Francisco Public Library in safeguarding and providing access to the city’s history,” says Alexander Nietzold, CEO of TIND.
