EPFL is live on TIND Institutional Repository

Released September 07, 2018

Lausanne, Switzerland and Oslo, Norway – September 7, 2018TIND was selected by the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) to provide their cloud-based Institutional Repository (TIND IR), replacing locally developed Invenio Software. Infoscience, the EPFL institutional repository, is now successfully migrated to TIND's SaaS repository.

EPFL Institutional Repository

The system went live already in January 2018 and has been running smoothly ever since, already receiving thousands of new scientific publication submissions.

"Replacing a 14-year-old platform is far from easy: no one wants to lose any data, functionalities or time. In addition, the switch to a new platform also has to be a seamless experience for the end users.

Replacing Infoscience was indeed a challenge: you can only imagine how highly-customized a locally developed, 13-year-old repository had become. It really had become increasingly hard to maintain.

TIND offers a SaaS repository, that is continuously and seamlessly updated and maintained by TIND. This allows us to focus our developer resources on developing services, apps, and integrations that are specific to EPFLs need, and still work together with the SaaS IR.

I am extremely satisfied that we have chosen TIND to help us achieving this migration. The team proved to be not only exceptionally skillful, but highly careful in a both technical and business context. I have been appreciating their dedication to the project, their availability, the quality of their work, advices and recommendations, and I still do.

All in all, I would recommend TIND team for any project that deals with an IR, whether it is a migration from an existing IR or the implementation of a IR from scratch.

Says Emmanuel BrétonProject Manager for Infoscience, EPFL

“Given the 14-year history, the EPFL library clearly has a lot of experience operating an IR, and we are humble to be partnering with such a competent institution. With our SaaS offering, more library resources can finally be channeled towards end-users services, rather than maintaining and developing the base platform.“

Says Alexander Nietzold, CEO at TIND.
