Lexington, VA, and Oslo, Norway - April 30, 2026 - Virginia Military Institute (VMI) has selected TIND Digital Archive (TIND DA) to manage and deliver its digital collections, migrating from CONTENTdm to a unified platform for collection management, digital preservation, and public discovery.

America's first state-supported military college migrates from CONTENTdm to a unified platform for managing and delivering its digital collections.
Founded in 1839, VMI is the first state-supported military college in the United States and home to nearly 1,700 cadets in Lexington, Virginia. Its library and archives hold primary source materials spanning nearly two centuries, including photographs, publications, veteran oral histories and institutional records. With TIND DA, these collections will be managed and preserved on a single platform, making archival materials more accessible to a wider audience.
“We are excited to implement TIND as our digital asset management system. We reviewed several systems, and selected TIND for its intuitive user interface, advanced collection display options, and balance of access and preservation capabilities. We are particularly excited about the platform's digital exhibit feature, which will allow users to interact with our collections in new and unique ways," said Major Jane Bartley, Digital Archivist at Virginia Military Institute.
The platform will integrate directly with VMI’s existing ArchivesSpace instance, eliminating duplicate data entry and streamlining workflows. Flexible ingest, automated preservation tools, and built-in digital exhibit capabilities further simplify how collections are brought online and maintained over time.
VMI’s migration reflects a broader shift among academic institutions toward integrated platforms that unify collection management, preservation, and public discovery. For VMI, this transition will make its archival collections more accessible, discoverable, and engaging for cadets, researchers, and the broader public.
