Released March 10, 2023

Ann Arbor, MI, and Oslo, Norway– March 10, 2023. TIND Research Data Management (TIND RDM) has been selected to power SOMAR, a new data repository dedicated to making social media data accessible to researchers. TIND RDM enables SOMAR to ingest and share large files while implementing new unique metadata fields for social media data. TIND’s turnkey solution was implemented in under two months, providing social media researchers with a faster and more effective way to store and share their data.

After extensive research, SOMAR selected TIND RDM as the most suitable data archiving solution for their needs. "Setting up the new platform [with TIND] is a significant step forward for SOMAR, providing a more efficient and comprehensive solution for storing and sharing social media data of various sizes," said Abay Israel, former Product Manager at ICPSR.

The collaboration between TIND and SOMAR has allowed ICPSR to build SOMAR's website in under two months, providing social media researchers with a faster and more effective way to store and share their data.

“TIND RDM seemed to be a perfect fit for SOMAR: a turnkey data repository providing data submission forms, data review workflows, and automated software archiving from Github. In addition, TIND RDM’s flexible data model allows for accurately describing any data ‘type’, including social media data. This is an exciting project, and we’re very excited to follow the progress of SOMAR!” Says Alexander Nietzold, CEO at TIND

SOMAR is exploring and learning about various approaches to structuring archive infrastructure, understanding data user needs, and building partnerships with other archives and software organizations.
