For decades, McFarlin Library’s Special Collections and University Archives have preserved some of Oklahoma’s most significant cultural and historical materials, including extensive holdings on World War I, Native American history, the Tulsa Race Massacre, and one of the world’s largest James Joyce collections. Managing and providing access to such diverse materials within an aging system had become increasingly challenging as formats and user expectations evolved. TIND DA offers a sustainable, hosted platform that supports this breadth of material while improving the experience for both end-users and staff.
“Launching TIND DA represents a major step forward for the University of Tulsa Libraries,” said Jill Krefft, R.M. & Ida McFarlin Dean of Libraries. “This platform allows us to connect our distinctive collections with a global audience, making it easier than ever for researchers and the public to discover and engage with the materials that define our shared cultural and scholarly heritage.”
During the evaluation process, the McFarlin Library team sought a modern, sustainable platform with a clean interface and simpler workflows. TIND DA met these needs, providing a unified environment for managing and presenting digital collections. Features such as batch ingest, automated file linking, and revision tracking streamline and simplify metadata management, while the hosted infrastructure removes the need for local maintenance and ensures long-term scalability. The migration proved to be low-maintenance but high-impact, reflecting a smooth transition and rapid adoption of TIND’s core functionality.
“The University of Tulsa’s migration reflects a broader shift among libraries modernizing from legacy systems to sustainable, hosted platforms,” said Alexander Nietzold, CEO of TIND.
